What’s new for Etsy and Reddit, plus 22 more services

Two services that plenty of people already use on IFTTT can do more now. Etsy for Sellers has its first action, so a spreadsheet row or a quick note can become a draft listing in your shop. Reddit’s triggers can now tell a video from a GIF from a gallery and give you the actual file instead of a link to the post.

IFTTT connects the apps and devices you use every day, so something happening in one can set off an action in another. Below is how both updates work, with Applets to start from, plus a quick look at 22 services you can now connect on IFTTT.

Want to build your own? Tell IFTTT Chat what you want to happen, and it sets up the Applet.

What’s new for Etsy and Reddit

  1. Etsy for Sellers: Create a listing action
  2. Reddit: Media type filter on the subreddit triggers, plus new Media url, Video url, and Media type ingredients.

Etsy for Sellers: create a listing from another app

The new Create a listing action for Etsy for Sellers lets another app start a listing in your shop. You map in the basics: title, description, price, quantity, who made it, when it was made, category, and whether it’s a physical item or a digital download. IFTTT saves it as a draft. Shipping profile and shop section are dropdowns pulled from your own shop, so you choose from profiles and sections you’ve already set up. For items with weight-based shipping, there are fields for weight and dimensions too.

Here’s how that plays out. Say you plan your holiday drop in Google Sheets, with one row per product and columns for the name, price, and stock count. Each new row becomes a draft waiting in Shop Manager. You add photos, read it over, and publish. If you also have an Applet that pins new listings to Pinterest, it shares the listing once it goes live. That spreadsheet row reaches your Pinterest followers after only two steps in Etsy: adding photos and publishing.

It works for quick ideas too. When something catches your eye at the craft store, jot the idea in the Note widget, and a draft will be waiting when you get home. If you sell printable planners or sewing patterns, set the listing type to digital and leave the shipping fields blank.

The Applets below are ready to turn on. When you connect one, you decide what fills each listing field, so it matches the way you already plan products.

Applets to try:

Reddit: filter by media type and grab the actual file

A Reddit post can be a link, a block of text, a single photo, a ten-photo gallery, a video, or a GIF. The three subreddit triggers (Any new post in subreddit, New hot post in subreddit, and New top post in subreddit) now have a Media type field. Set it to Video, GIF, Image, or Gallery, and the Applet only fires for that kind of post. Leave it on Any to fire for every new post.

Reddit’s post triggers also have three new ingredients:

  1. Media url links to the post’s media file: the video for a video post, an MP4 for a GIF, the first image in a gallery, or the image itself.
  2. Video url gives you a playable MP4 for video and GIF posts.
  3. Media type tells you what the post was (video, gif, image, gallery, text, or link). You can use it as a column in a spreadsheet log or a condition in filter code.

The GIF detail matters if you save a lot of them. Reddit keeps both a .gif and an MP4 version of most GIFs, and IFTTT gives you the MP4, which can be up to 20 times smaller. So if r/aww is your bad-day folder, set Media type to Video and send each new clip to Dropbox. By Friday you’ll have a week of dogs learning to use stairs.

Galleries benefit too. Photo dumps from hobby subreddits like r/houseplants or r/mechanicalkeyboards are often galleries. Media url gives you their first image, so a gallery post can land in Telegram as a photo instead of a link.

The Applets below already use the subreddit triggers, so you can turn one on and set Media type to fit. If r/aww is your bad-day subreddit, set the notification Applet to Video, and your phone only buzzes for clips.

22 new services to pair with your Applets

Along with the Etsy and Reddit updates, 22 services have joined IFTTT. They’re grouped below by what they’re for, with Applets to try at the end.

For podcasters

Auphonic cleans up your audio by leveling voices, cutting background noise, and trimming filler words. Spreaker hosts your show and triggers when an episode goes live. OP3 is free, open-source podcast analytics that can text you when it starts measuring a new episode. Together they cover a lot of the path from raw recording to published episode.

For making and posting

Sonilo generates commercially licensed music and sound effects from a text prompt, including a song based on each morning’s weather. Publora sends posts to ten social networks from one queue that you can fill from an RSS feed or a webhook. Venice AI is a private AI platform your Applets can use to answer questions, generate images, and transcribe audio.

For selling online

If you sell on Etsy, these two fit alongside it. Squarespace triggers on new and updated orders, and other apps can tell it to fulfill an order, create a contact, or adjust stock. Printify handles print-on-demand and can flag an order that hasn’t shipped within the number of days you set.

For short-term rental hosts

Beds24 and Host Tools keep rental listings in sync across Airbnb, Vrbo, and Booking.com. With Beds24, a guest checking in tomorrow can send your cleaner an SMS with the arrival details. Host Tools can post confirmed bookings to Slack for your co-hosts.

For the workday

Microsoft SharePoint brings your team’s lists and document libraries to IFTTT. Google Slides can build decks and add images to them, for example from a Dropbox folder. Copper is a CRM inside Google Workspace that can create leads from form responses. Presence turns your calendar and calls into one availability status your coworkers can see in Slack.

For home

Reolink cameras trigger on people, packages, animals, and more, and they can start recording when another device, like a Honeywell Home leak sensor, goes off. AirBolt is a smart travel lock with sensors for motion, water, and temperature. Notify! puts Live Activities on your iPhone, like one that stays on your Lock Screen while your myQ garage door is open.

For health and habits

Whoop can notify you when your recovery score drops below a number you set. Google Health brings together activity, sleep, weight, and exercise data from your watch and the Google Health app. typing.feedback can post a new typing personal best to your Discord server.

For getting outside and staying informed

eBird, from the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, can text you when a rare bird is reported near you. Google Civic Information looks up your polling place and ballot by street address, which is useful with the November 3 midterms a few weeks away.

Build the one you need

Whether you’re running a shop, following a subreddit, hosting a podcast, or managing a rental, start with one task you do by hand every week and turn on an Applet for it. You can add more once it’s running.

If the Applet you want isn’t on this page, describe it in IFTTT Chat, and it builds it for you.
