Why should I automate a Discord server?
Discord is a dynamic communication platform. It offers robust features for both casual and professional environments. From gamers to stock traders, everyone seems to love hopping on for a quick chat or voice meeting.
Discord is the perfect blank canvas for automation. By automating your Discord server, you can enhance productivity, improve engagement, and create a better experience for your community. Here's a deeper look at some of the benefits of automating a Discord server with IFTTT:
Save time on repetitive tasks
Instead of manually sending updates, reminders, or announcements, tools like IFTTT can automate it for you. This frees up time for more meaningful interactions with your community.
Enhance community engagement
Automation can help keep your community active and engaged. From welcoming new members to posting regular discussion starters, you can ensure that your server remains lively without constantly being there.
Seamless integrations with other apps
By connecting Discord with Google Sheets, Trello, or Twitch, you can streamline communication across different tools. This is perfect for businesses, content creators, and study groups.
Better moderation and security
Automated moderation bots can filter inappropriate content, assign roles, and manage server rules. This reduces the workload for human moderators and making sure your server always has a friendly environment.
What is IFTTT?
IFTTT, available as both a free web-based service and mobile app, works by creating connections between 1000 popular apps and services. The basic idea behind IFTTT is to create Applets that trigger when certain conditions are met. This can be turning on the lights automatically when you enter your house or notifying your Discord community when you go live on Twitch. With IFTTT, you can connect Discord to 1000 different apps and services automatically.
The two ways to automate Discord with IFTTT
With IFTTT, we offer two methods to automate Discord. These are enabling a pre-made Applet or building your own with our user-friendly Applet builder.
Engineers at IFTTT and users like yourself have published millions of pre-made automations, known as Applets. Chances are that your automation idea has already been created and can be enabled in just a few clicks. Simply browse our Discord page or search for whatever service you are looking to automate.
In case you would like to create your very own custom Applet, the setup process is easy and only takes a few minutes. We'll walk you through both methods in the next sections.
Enable an Applet
Enabling an Applet requires a free IFTTT account, so make sure to sign up or log in if prompted. Below are two options that will automatically send new files in a folder to a Discord channel. Click the Applet below to get started.
-
Automatically send new file in folder on Google Drive to Discord channel
-
Automatically send new file uploaded to Dropbox to a Discord channel
Build a Discord Applet
To set up an Applet to share a new file to a Discord server, simply select whatever file-sharing service you use as the trigger. Then, set the action as a message getting sent in Discord. Follow these steps below to build your own custom file to Discord Applet.
1. Start creating your Applet
Go to the IFTTT website and click Create in the top menu.
Click on If This, which is the trigger that will initiate your automation.
2. Choose a trigger service
Search for and select the service that will act as the trigger (e.g., Google Drive, Dropbox, Box, OneDrive for new files).
Select the specific trigger event, such as New file added to folder.
3. Choose Discord as the action
Click on Then That to set up the action that will take place when the trigger event happens.
Search for and select Discord as the action service.
Choose an action such as Post a message to a channel.
4. Activate and test your Applet
Click Continue, review the details, and then click Finish to activate the Applet.
Test your automation by triggering the event (e.g., upload a file) and checking if the message appears in Discord.
Note, that you can also set up an Applet with Discord as the trigger and then any other app as the action. For example, save every pinned message in Discord into a Google Spreadsheet. The possibilities are endless with IFTTT! Check out these other great Discord Applets.
